This bequest has been deliberately (and effectively!) scribbled over.
- "All which legacies ... to be paid ... within Twelve months after my decease; John Needham, Samuel Eyre, Lawrence Ormured and Richard Hartley receive their legacies immediately after my decease for mourning"
As these people's legacies are previously unknown, they are likely to be what has been scribbled over.

Barmaster, and my son George Slack ... in trust that they pay ... to my dear wife Betty ... the yearly rents issues or profits thereof ... and after her death ... sell or dispose of the same for the best price ... and that they divide the monies arising ... into five equal parts ..."

- Admin doc 2, 13/10/1830 states that John Slack died 5/4/1830
- Admin doc 3, admin granted 13/10/1830 to Samuel Slack of Castleton, Tallow Chandler
George Slack, grocer of Castleton, 1830
Will dated 24/4/1830 mentions:
- "I George Slack of Castleton ... Grocer"
- "to my brother in law William Ashmore of Bradwell ... farmer, my son William Slack, and my daughter Betty Slack ... all my stock in trade, money, household furniture, farming stock and implements of husbandry" etc, as trustees, on condition that "they carry on my trade ... and with the profits support such of my children as shall not at the time of my decease have attained the age of twenty one"
- "I also give and devise all my Freehold and Copyhold messuages lands tenements and hereditaments ... situate ... in the parishes of Castleton and Hope" to them in trust to sell.
- Immediately after the youngest of his children reaches the age of 21 everything to "my Children Betty Slack, Hannah Ashton, Maria Slack, William Slack, Anne Slack, Samuel Slack, Robert Slack and George Slack equally to be divided amongst them ... my son James Slack having already been provided for"
- Witnesses: [Solicitor and his clerk plus] Mariah Burrows

Oath dated 17/8/1866 by Thomas Slack confirms he was one of the witnesses of the will.
Probate granted 27/8/1866 to Hannah Slack, widow, the relict, and Samuel Slack the father. Power reserved for Joseph Wainwright. Testator died 19/6/1866.
