Sir John Manners of Haddon, knight, 1609/11
Will dated 6/2/1608[/09] mentions:
- "to be buried in the parishe churche of Bakewell in the Chappell where Sir George Vernons Tombe is and where I have caused a Tombe to be set up in memory of me and my late wife"
- "unto the Almeshouse at Bakewell thirtie poundes"
- "to the poore of Bakewell tenne poundes"
- "to the pore of Ashford fyve poundes"
- "to the poore of Monyashe three poundes"
- "to the poore of Yolgreave three poundes"
- "to the poore of Stanton fortie shillinges"
- "to the poore of Sheldom fortie shillinges"
- "to the poore of Taddington and Prestcliffe fyve markes"
- "to the poore of Baslowe fyve markes"
- "to the poore of Whitwell fyve poundes"
- "to the poore of Grandbye in the County of Nottingham twentie nobles"
- "to the poore of Grynley in the same County fyve poundes"
- "to other poore people which shall happen to be at my Funerall beying none of the poore of the sayd Townes twenty poundes"
- "unto Sir George Manners knighte" besides all the Manners lands already given him, "all my Mannors of Harthill and Holmefeild and all that my mannor or Grannge of Aldwarke ... and also that my mannor of Granbie and Sutton in the Countie of Nottingham ... and also my house called the Freires in Nottingham"
- "to my sayed sonne Sir George Manners" more lands, tithes etc in Nottingham on condition that he "shall yearlie paye unto the Governor and poore in St Johns Hospitall in Bakewell ... twentie fyve poundes"
- "to my sayed sonne Sir George Maners knighte and to my loving daughter in lawe the Ladye Manners his nowe wife all that my mannors of Ilkeston and little Hallam in the County of Derbye and all that my mannor of Greslye and Kimberley in the Countie of Nottingham ... and after theire decease ... unto John Manners Esquire sonne and heire apparent of the sayed Sir George Manners"
- "my sonne Roger Manners shall have hould and enjoy all that my Manor of Whitwell ... and allso all that my Rectory or parsonage of Grynley in the Countie of Nottingham" according to a deed dated 3/1/1599
- "unto my very loving sonne in lawe Sir Francys Fortescue knighte one guilt Boll of tenne pounes price, and to my lovng daughter the Ladye Fortescue his wife one hundred poundes, and to Gilbert Fortescue thare sonne twoe hundred poundes"
- "unto my very good Lord and nephue Gilbert Earle of Shrewsbury one nest of Bowles of twentie poundes price"
- "unto my very good Lord and nephue Roger Earl of Rutland the like nest of Bolles of twentie poundes price"
- "unto my very good nephue Sir John Savage knight a silver Boll of the value of tenne poundes"
- "unto my very lovinge freindes Mr Francys Fitzherbet Mr Francys Cooke Mr Thomas Symcocks and Mr John Baxter to each of them a Ringe of gold of fortie shillinges price"
- "to my loving servants Rowland Eyre Thomas Eyre and John Roe each of them the like ryng of gould of fortie shillinges price"
- "there shalbe at Haddon a house kept for one halfe yere next after my deathe ...for ... my houshould servants at the tyme of my deathe for to have theire meate drinke and lodging in"
- "unto my servant Roger Roe .. all that my mesuage [etc] in Birchover ... which I boughte of Edmond Bamford and Cicely Bamford widowe his mother"
- Also mentions in side margin : "in Birchover aforesayd which I boughte of Nichas Allen gent and Barbara Allen widow his mother"
- "unto my servant Richard Dale ... all those my lands ... in Wendesley ... which I lately purchased of Mr Wendesley Blackwell and Mr Raphe Blackwell ... uppon condition that the sayed Richard Dale ... shall yerelie paye unto the Governor and poore of Saint Johns Hospital in Bakewell ... eighteene pounds"
- Makes mention of a seperate document detailing payments to all his servants
