Gervais was born in Dronfield in 1604(1), the youngest of George's children. He had an older sister Mildred(2).

He married Dorothy Hydes in Dronfield on 15th June 1625(3). Their first child, Elizabeth was born in 1627($D$), followed by Anne in 1629(5) and Mary in 1634(6). However Mary died the following year(7), and Anne the year after that(8). They had another daughter Mildred in 1637(9), and then Grace in 1640(10). Their only son Thomas was born in 1643(11), and then finally they had two more daughters - Gartrude in 1645(12) and Sarah in 1647(13).

Gervais signed a new 21 lease for his farm in 1630, in which he was described as a gentleman(14).

Gervais's burial is not recorded in Hathersage, but he probably died in the summer of 1666(15).
