| Children | Job, Hannah, Joseph, Mary, Emma, James |
Samuel was born in Tideswell, in 1803 (1), the seventh child of Job and Hannah (2). A younger brother Joseph was born two years later(3), then two youger sisters - Emmet in 1807 (4) and Sally in 1809 (5). His mother died in when he was just seven (6).
He married Mary Ann Robinson on 21st June 1829, at which time he was said to be a labourer (7), and their eldest son Job was born the following year (8). They had a daughter Hannah in 1833 (9), then a son Joseph in about 1836 (10). They had a daughter Mary in 1839 (11) by which time, and in the census of following year (12), he had changed jobs and was a carrier. His youngest daughter, Emma, was born in 1842 (13), a few months before the death of his father (14). His last child was James, born in 1844 (15) (although he was only to live for nine years (16)).
Sometime before next census in 1851, but likely since the death of his father, he became a farmer with 20 acres of land and his brother Henry moved in with him (17). He remained a farmer, perhaps gaining a small amount of extra land (18), but also dealt in hay and straw (21), until he died from dropsy aged 63, on 26th April 1867 (19). He left everything to his wife (21), who survived him by five years (20).
