Robert was born in Abney in 1631, the son of William (1) and Elizabeth (2). His older brother Nicholas had been born a couple years before him (2). His younger brother Dennis was born in 1634 (3). His brother John, who's birthdate is unknown, died in 1637 (4). His sister Elizabeth was born in 1638 (5), and finally another sister Matilda in 1641 (6).

He married a woman called Anne (9)(12)(13)(17) and their eldest son Dennis was born in 1662 (7). Their next son Nichlas was born around 1665 (8), and then a daughter Hannah in 1669 (9). Later that year both he and his father were jurors at the manor court of Abney (10).
