Sarah Gregory

1760 - after 1786

Father Joseph Gregory
Mother Elizabeth Marsden
Husband Sarah Gregory
Children Joseph, Hannah, Daniel, Elizabeth, Ann

Sarah was born in Elton and baptised there on 7th January 1760, the daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth (1). She had a brother Abraham a couple of years her senior(2), and then brother William was born in 1762(3). Sister Hannah followed in 1767(4), and then three more brothers - Joseph in 1770(5), Charles in 1772(6) and Humphrey in 1774(7). Finally youngest sister Elizabeth was born in 1776(8), but she only lived about 3 years(9).

She married Francis Prime in Winster on 6th January 1777(10)(11), and they settled there. Their eldest son was Joseph, but he died young in 1780(12). He was followed by a daughter Hannah who was born in 1781(13), a son Daniel in 1783(14) and another daughter Elizabeth in 1786(15). They also had a daughter Ann, but her date of birth is not known(16).

It is not known when either Sarah or Francis died, but it may have been as early as the late 1780s(18).

  18. No record of either Sarah or Francis is found after 1786, and the wording of Francis's father's will, written in 1791, could imply that Francis and possibly Sarah too were already dead, as he only mentions their children(17). This could explain why Sarah had no more children after the age of 26.
