1848 - 1930

Ann at the time of her marriage in 1866.
| Father | Samuel Slack |
| Mother | Ann Holmes |
| Husband | Alfred Flint |
| Children | Martha, William Slack, Rosa, Samuel, Elizabeth, Alfred, Henry, John Thomas, Caroline, Charles, Ann & Edwin |
Ann was born on 12th September 1848, (1) at Chapelsteads Farm (2) in Wormhill, the youngest of ten children (her parents had eleven, but Sarah Anne had died 9 years earlier). She appears in the census of 1851 (3) with them all living on Chapelsteads farm, along with her grandmother Martha Holme, and a live-in servant.
Her brother Joseph left home in 1856 (4), William in 1859 (5), Martha soon afterwards (6) and Thomas in 1860 (7), so that by the census of 1861 (8) Ann was one of just six siblings still living at home. Her grandmother Martha Holme was still there too, along with her uncle Richard Slack, her mother's niece Julia Holmes, and a 3 year old "visitor" Martha Gill, who may turn out to be related somehow but I'm not sure how yet.
By 1866 she was working in Tideswell as a domestic servant (9). On Christmas Eve that year, she married Alfred Flint in Tideswell Church (9). Their first child Martha was born in October the following year (10), followed by their son William Slack in April 1869 (11). Her father Samuel died shortly afterwards in July 1869 (12). Their daughter Rosa was born in about February 1871 (13). By the census of 2nd April 1871 that year, Ann was living with her husband, three children, and her brother Richard, in Back Lane, Tideswell (14).
Her next son Samuel was born in early 1873 (15), followed by Elizabeth in 1875 (16), Alfred in 1877 (17), Henry in 1878 (18) and John Thomas in 1880 (19). By the census of April 1881 (20) the family is made up of Alfred, Ann and 8 children, living at the top of Townhead in Tideswell.
Their daughter Elizabeth died in 1882 (21), but towards the end of that year, or the beginning of 1883, their next daughter Caroline was born (22), followed by Charles in 1885 (23), Ann in 1888 (24) and finally Edwin in 1889 (21). Edwin only survived for 17 months though, dying in November 1890 (21).
By the 1891 census (24), Ann, Alfred and nine of their children are living in Ivy Cottage, Townhead. This house was far too small for the size of family (it may have been one up one down), and the children are said to have slept in shifts (26). Ann's mother died in October 1894 (27)
By the 1901 census (28) Alfred and Ann were still there, but only three children were still left at home. Nothing more is known until her husband Alfred's death on 28th May 1922 (29) aged 82. Ann died on 25th March 1930 aged 81 (30), and was buried in Tideswell churchyard (21).
