Nathaniel was born in Wensley and baptised in Darley on 20th January 1661(1), one of twelve children of John and Mary(2). His mother died in 1668(3) and his father in 1679(4). He was left their house and lands in Wensley along with shares in a number of lead mines(5).

The identity of his wife, or date of their marriage is not known, but his eldest daughter Ellen was born in Wensley in 1683(6). Eldest son John followed in 1685(7), but then Ellen died the following year(8). Another daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1687(9) but she only lived for a few days(10). A son Daniel came along the next year(11), and then another named Francis in 1690(12). Another daughter was named Elizabeth in 1697(13), and then a son Nathaniel in 1700(14). Youngest daughter Lydia was born in 1703(15). There was also a daughter Mary, who died in 1711(17), but her birthdate is not known.

Nathaniel died in 1746 and was buried in Darley on 5th October(18).

    In the name of god Amen. The 21th day of December in the one and thirtith yeare of or souvraigne
    lord king, Charles the second ~ I John Prime of Wendsley yeoman being weake in body but of sound
    and perfect memory praised bee god for the same and calling to remembrance the uncertainty of this transitory
    life, and being desirouse to settle things in ever do make constitute and appoint this my last will and testament in
    manner and form following. That is to say first and principally I commend my soul to almighty god my creator
    hoping & fully trusting and beleeveing that I shall receive full pardon for all my sinns & be saved through
    the merits of my Saviour and redeemer jesus Christ and my body to the earth to be buried in such decent
    manner as to my executors herein named shall seeme [meet]. And as touching my worldly estate my will and meaning
    is the same shall bee imployed and bestowed as hereafter by this my last will is expressed. Imprimis I give and
    bequeath unto my sonne Richard Prime The house in Wendsley whereing he now liveth with the barnes stable and
    what other housing thereunto belongs together with the croft and garden adjoyning and belonging to the same house
    to him and his Heirs for ever. Item I give unto my sonne Daniel Prime our old house in Wendsley
    aforsd Adjoyning to Widdow Gothards house with a little back side thereto belonging to him and his heirs
    for ever. Item I give unto my sonne Nathaniel Prime The dwelling house in Wendsley wherein I
    now live together with all out houses gardens and Croft there unto belonging to him and his heirs for ever.
    Item I give and bequeath unto my two sonnes Richard and Nathaniel and to their heirs for ever my twenty
    fourth part of all those grooves in Wendsley aforsd called by the names of the Milne Close grooves
    Blackwells grooves straw [coes] oldfield head groove [Shimie] Arbour Old wood and New wood and all shafts
    mears of ground and soughs whatsoever belonging to the grooves aforsd or to any of them. They the
    sd Richard and Nathaniel Prime paying and discharging all my debts wherein I stand angaged or indebted
    in to any person or persons whatsoever, And also paying and discharging all those legacies which hereafter in this
    my last will are expressed. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Mary Prime the sum of fifty pounds
    that is to say twenty five pounds to be paid her within one yeare after my desease and other twenty and
    five pounds two yeares after my deseace. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Daniel Prime
    the sum of Thirty pounds, to be paid within one yeare and a day after my deseace. Item I give and
    bequeath unto my Grandchild Lydia Maddock the sum of tenn pounds to be paid two years after
    my deseace. Item I give and bequeath unto my sonne Francis Prime the sume of five pounds to bee
    paid within one yeare after my deseace, Also I give unto sd sonne Francis (one bond from George
    Maddock and Robert Maddock made to mee with obligation of forty pounds for the true payment of
    twenty pounds) which sd sum I do impower my sonne Francis to sue for recover and take to his owne
    proper use as well as I my self might or ought to have done. Item I give unto my daughter Anne the
    Wife of John Bentley the sum of five pounds to bee paid two years after my deseace. Also I
    do hereby order and appoint my two sonnes Richard and Nathaniel to [lend] unto my daughter Dorothy the
    wife of George Maddock one Cow to [unlimted with milke] so long as shee shall [b....] and stand in [....].
    Item I give and bequeath all my household goods unto my sonne Daniel Prime and to my sonne Nathaniel
    Prime and to my daughter Mary Prime to bee equally divided amongst them. Also I do constitute ordaine and
    appoint my sonn Richard Prime and my sonne Nathaniel Prime the executors of this my last will and testament.
    And further I do desire my brother Edward Prime of Sheffield gent and my brother William Prime of Farley
    to take care and oversight of this my last will and to see it bee performed accordingly. In witnesse whereof I
    have here unto set my hand and seale the day and yeare first above written.
