Thomas Eyre

fl 1684 - 1709

Father Francis Eyre
Mother Alice
Wife Ann Bagshaw
Children Mary, Hanna, George, Alice, Joseph, Francis

Thomas was probably born somewhere around 1660 in Abney (1), the son of Francis and Alice. He had brothers William, Robert & Francis (8), and may also have had a sister Mary (2).

He married Anne Bagshaw on 5th May 1684 (5) and they had a daughter Mary the following year (6)(8)

His father died in 1688 (7), and Thomas was executor of the will, along with his brothers William, Robert & Francis. Thomas inherited the tenancy of their father's house in Abney (8)(9)

He had another daughter Hanna later that year (10), then a son George in 1693 (11). His mother died the following year (12), then his eldest daughter Mary a couple of months later (13). However another daughter, Alice (probably named after his recently deceased mother), was born in 1697 (14), then another son, Joseph in 1700 (15), but he died in 1705 (16).

His only other known child was a son Francis who died in 1709 (17), but his date of birth is not known.

I have found no sign of Thomas or his wife after this, so they could have moved away from Abney.

Brief details of his children:

Sources:

  1. His date of birth is simply estimated from his date of marriage (5), and I am assuming he was born in Abney as it was where he and his father before him lived
  2. The first bequest in his father's will was 20s to an Agnis Furnis, and the rest of the will includes many more bequests of 20s to his various grandchildren (8). This implies Agnis may have been a grandaughter. This ties in fairly well the marriage of Henry Furnis of Great Hucklow to Mary Eyre in 1678 (3), and the subsequent baptism of their daughter Agnes in 1681 (4).
  3. Parish Register of St Peter's, Hope (transcript by Val Neal), includes the marriage of Henry Furnis of Great Hucklow & Mary Eyre on 31/10/1678.
  4. Parish Register of St Peter's, Hope (transcript by Val Neal), includes the baptism of Agnes, daughter of Henry Furnis of Great Hucklow on 24/04/1681.
