Thomas Robinson

fl 1652

Father
Mother
Wife
Children Thomas

Very little is known of Thomas. The Tideswell parish registers record baptisms of the children of Thomas Robinson in January 1641 (1), May 1642 (2) and then three more finishing in February 1652 (3)(4)(5)(6). However the only marriage recorded for a Thomas Robinson was in February 1642 (7), so unless his first wife died in 1641 and was buried elsewhere, and then he married his second wife while she was six months pregnant, then there must have been two Thomases having children at the same time. This makes it impossible to say which baptisms were of the children of which Thomas, and there are no other documents yet discovered to help piece the situation together.

Brief details of his children:

Sources:

  1. Parish Register of St John the Baptist, Tideswell, includes the entry:
    [January 1640]
Bapp erat Jacob Robbinson fil: Thom |....

The edge of the page, where the day of the month is recorded, cannot be read on microfilm. Val Neal's transcript of the original gives it as the 24th. This is dated by the Julian calendar, so is actually 24/1/1641 in the Gregorian calendar.
  2. Parish Register of St John the Baptist, Tideswell (transcript by Val Neal), includes the entry:
Baptised 30/5/1642 - Ellnor, daughter of Thomas Robinson This was not readable on microfilm; and is not corroborated by the IGI; nor by the transcript from Yeatmans "Feudal History of the County of Derby", Volume 5, Chapter 16; nor by the extracts published in "The Reliquary", Volume 8, 1867/68 so will have to be confirmed in the original
  3. Parish Register of St John the Baptist, Tideswell, includes the entry:
    [November 1643]
Bapp erat Samuell Robbinson fil Thom   5
  4. Parish Register of St John the Baptist, Tideswell, includes the entry:
    [November 1643]
Sepp erat Ellnor Robinson filia Thom   2[.]
  5. Parish Register of St John the Baptist, Tideswell, includes the entry:
    [August 1649]
Bapt Robert Robinson son of Thomas |....

The edge of the page, where the day of the month is recorded, cannot be read on microfilm. Val Neal's transcript of the original gives it as the 4th.
  6. Parish Register of St John the Baptist, Tideswell, includes the entry:
    [February 1651]
Bapt Thomas Robinson son of Thomas [8]

The day of the month is difficult to read. I think it more likely to be an 8, but Val Neal's transcript of the original gives it as the 5th. Whichever is the case, this is dated by the Julian calendar, so is actually January 1652 in the Gregorian calendar.
  7. Parish Register of St John the Baptist, Tideswell (transcript by Val Neal), includes the entry:
Married 19/2/1642 - Thomas Robinson & Grace Willson

Notes:

Confirm transcript entries in original register.
