Nathaniel Prime

1700 - 1788

Father Nathaniel Prime
Mother
Wife Jane Smith
Children Thomas, Richard, Jonathan, Jane, Nathaniel, Mary, Francis, Daniel, Peter

Nathaniel was born in Wensley in 1700, the son of Nathaniel, and baptised in Darley on 14th July(1). He had older siblings John, Daniel, Francis and Elizabeth (and perhaps Mary), and his younger sister Lydia was born 3 years later(2).

In 1726 he married Jane Smith in Youlgreave(3) and they settled in Rowtor where they had their first son Thomas the following year(4). He was followed by Richard in 1728(5) and Jonathan in 1730(6). Their eldest daughter Jane was born in 1732(7), then son Nathaniel in 1734(8), Mary in 1736(9) and Frances in 1739(10).

There was seemingly an eleven year gap before their next child was born. There may be other unknown children (for example the identity of their son Thomas's niece Mary's father is unknown and may be another one(14)), or there may be some other explanation. Nathaniel's father died during this time, in 1746(11).

Their next son Daniel was born in 1750(12), and then finally Peter around 1754(13).

Nathaniel died in March 1788 and was buried in Yougreave(16). His wife died in 1790(17). Their gravestone is a little inaccurate, stating that Nathaniel died 2 days after he was buried, and Mary 2 years after!(18)
